ALL OUR EXPECTATIONS HAVE BEEN EXCEEDED BY FAR.

We  asked for sponsors for 11 children. When we left on the 5th of June 2009, friends/colleagues/family but also unknown people reacted with the wish to sponsor a child. Each person gave us the tuition fees in good faith in advance for 1 or 2 and in one case, even for 7 children.

During our vacation (2 weeks) we were able to pay the tuition fees for 4  children -who have been sponsored last year as well- for 2009-2010.

We have been able to enrol 38 new children in school and pay their tuition fees for 2009-2010. The youngest of these children is 3 years and 2 months old, the senior is 18 years old. The children have been placed in several cities and villages such as Salikene, Barra, Banjul, Serrekunda and Penyem. But this story does not end, because yesterday grandpa and grandma told us, they wanted to sponsor a child each.

Happiness for these children is that because of you, they get a chance on education and therefore a chance on a better life. For us, happiness is the feeling we have been able to do this in your name.

TO SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYONE OF YOU IS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH because no gift is larger than giving education to a child.

On behalf of us, the children and their parents THANK YOU. We promise you, that as long as you will be able to continue to pay the tuition fees for these children, we will continue helping the people we have learned to love very much.

In Gambia it is very difficult for parents to pay the tuition fees for their children. If you earn exactly enough with your family to be able to eat and pay the rent, the choice is made fast. Luckily more and more tourists are coming  to Gambia now who want to sponsor a child to go to school. But….there are still so many children  who want to go to school very much in order to get a chance on a better future for themselves but also for their future children. Because the children want to learn so much, we decided to let Foday go to school and look for friends and family and other people, who want to pay school for a child. This has already succeeded for a couple children.
Let me introduce these  ;

Foday

 up

Naughty Foday. He speaks English well now and he is able to count, but  is put back in a lower class, nevertheless.
Because he has changed schools last year,, there are gaps in his knowledge.
He has to work very hard this year, but  fortunately he likes going to school.
We expect he will catch up .

June 2009. Foday has done well in recent months, at school.
His report is excellent, and if he is still a month in this way can he go to the next class. Together, I have some fun conversation in English with him.
He can't eat neatly that is why he is usually eats separately.

Foday is sponsored by the customers of the hairdressers salon Xing from Nijmegen

----------

Saykou

 up

We visited Saykou’s school in March 2009 as well and we have spoken with his teacher. He is doing well and comes to school every day.
His teacher is very satisfied about his progress He now already speaks reasonably English and he even gave us a note for his sponsor.
The school head has copied his school report for my aunt.. In June she will pay for next school year's tuition fee.
We will enrol him in June

June 2009. Saykou is still doing well at school, especially his English is progressing. He will go to the next class.
Aunt Coby paid for 2009-2010 and we registered him in her name

---------

Bubbacar

 up

We have also visited the school of Bubbacar and have asked for his results.
This little boy is still enthusiastic every day about being able to go to school.
We can have a small conversation in English and he can already count. He also sings  songs.
We will get his final report by e-mail at the end of this school year by the director of the school.
I think that Brigitte will be glad with his results. In June 2009 we will enrol Bubbacar for next school year.
Thank you, Brigitte.

June 2009. Bubbacar always continues laughing.
If he is swimming in the sea- which he loves very much, but finds it also terribly cold- he will laugh to you.
He still loves school. Every day he goes to school with much pleasure.
He is singing English children’s songs the entire day and therefore he has been registered for 2009-2010 as well.

Kumba

up

After her father left, Kumba has lived with her mother Jolla at her grandpa and a lot of other family members on the compound. She is 7 years old.
Last year she wanted to go to school very much but her mother had still not found work. Fortunately, Kumba has been going to school since September 2008, because Mari and Marianne from Aarle Rixtel want to pay Kumba’s tuition fees, etc..  Kumba attends the Victory Gospel Church school in Serrekunda. She is doing well and is very happy.

June 2009. A lot has changed for Kumba. Her father is back, she has a baby brother now and at the end of this month the whole family will live in a rented house of their own. It was the beginning of the rain season and then Kumba suffers from her bronchitis. We left medicine at her mother Jolla in order to get through the coming months. Generally after a couple of days it will get less hard to breath. Kumba is still going to school with much pleasure and also doing her best. She does not get very good grades, but will go to the next class.

up

Modou and Mustapha they want to go to school so much, that they have worked in the vegetable garden of the school in their holiday period for us.
In this way they both earned their tuition fees for the year 2008-2009.
They will attend the Penyem Upper Basic school for one year.

These 2 young men have maintained the garden well and are presently in their final year. In July we will hear, if they have passed.

June 2009.  These 2 young men are now awaiting their examination results which they will get by the end of august/beginning September. Hopefully they have succeeded and are possible to go to a continuation course. We will hear that then. The sponsoring stops now.

-------------

Salifu

 up

Salifu; My Colleague  Herna and her husband will sponsor a child. They want to sponsor a child who needs it badly and otherwise won’t be able to go to school

June 2009 Salifu Sanyang is 9 years old and lives in the inland country in Salikene. He is the oldest child of Isatou and Ebrima. He attends school for the first time in his life thanks to Herna. He takes it very seriously. Salifu has been registered for the school year 2009-2010 on the Salikene Basic Circle school. At this school the children get 1 meal each day, if the sponsor pays for it. Herna has paid for these meals. Salifu therefore has two reasons to go school now.

June 2009. Omar E has been registered at the Essau Community Nursery school for school year 2009-2010.  He is very happy to go to school just like his big brothers and sisters. We hope that he will be exactly as promising as his brothers and sisters. A marginal comment is that Omar is a bit of a hand-full according to the head of the school. A vivacious boy therefore.

----------

Omar A

 up

His younger nephew Omar A  ,that lives at the same compound, and whose father deceased will be sponsored by Leyla. we enrol him at the same school  in June.

Father and mother of these 2 little girls are elated that their two daughters are able to go to school this way.

Momodou

 up

.Momodou Jallow;   Jan and Peggy, for you we are negotiating with the school head Mr. Kemo  to choose one child from a list of 44 children, who needs the tuition fee most at this moment. June 2009. Momodou is 18 years old. He is a son of Ebrima and Ousainatou Jallow and 1 of 7 children. Momodou  is now attending 7th grade of the Penyem Upper Basic School. Mama Dibba

up

Mama DibbaLives with a large family in an outlying village Salikene (Farafenni region), but wants to go to school. Fortunately Maria, my colleague wants to pay, so that hopefully also Maama can go to school. We want to realise this during our next visit to Gambia in February/March 2009

In March we did it: Maama will attend school as from  school year 2009-2010 . Because her mother cannot do without her, she will not go to Serrekunda, but provisionally the first couple of years in her own village Salikene. Maria paid for the more expensive school in Serrekunda and the remaining amount of money will be spent on school uniforms for the other 11 children at this compound, so they will be able to go to kindergarten in 2009.  Kindergarten in this village is for free, but each child needs an uniform, shoes, pen,  pencil and a writing book. The shoes and the other materials needed are already in the container. We have 2 years to find sponsors for these 11 children for the tuition fees for primary education.

June 2009. Mama Dibba is 9 years old and is registered for the school year of 2009-2010 on Salikene Basic Circle School. She too will go to school for the first time in her life

up

Then we still have 9 children from Salikene who could not remain in school because their parents could not afford the uniforms. This was heartbreaking and the only thing that we could do at that moment was to buy 9 uniforms. Therefore these children also will attend school now from September for 1 year. The photos of these 9 will also be put on the site when I receive them. The donation of the uniforms is from Jan and Mieke who gave us the amount  necessary

The names of the children are;   Yabinta Sanyang,  Gibba Sanyang,  Basana Jobe,  Isa Fatajo,  Sherifunding Kolley,  Yaya Kolley,  Isatou Drameh,  Yankuba Kolley,  Burana Danbou.

have been following this girl for two years now with great interest. She takes school very seriously. According to the village committee she is also very promising. We will see.

Together with our grandmother V. from Spijkenisse we sponsor Mariama. She attends St. Fawles Senior School in Bakau. She has to walk a mile to school each day and back again. She is full of perseverance!

I have ever read:

What will grow elsewhere and later

Present and here its seizure get.

We here in our world can cooperate to create a better future for these children.

So let us do it with each other. There are still many more children  that want to go to school very badly.

If you want to help, let me know.
